About Thomas Lynch

Thomas Lynch is the author of six collections of poems, five books of essays and a book of stories, Apparition & Late Fictions.

The Undertaking won the American Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award.  His work has appeared in The Atlantic and Granta, The New Yorker and Esquire, Poetry and The Paris Review, and has been the subject of two documentary films, Learning Gravity by Cathal Black for the BBC and RTE and PBS Frontline’s The Undertaking, which won an Emmy Award.

The Depositions – New & Seleccted Essays was published by W.W. Norton in November, 2019.  Bone Rosary – New & Selected Poems was published by David R. Godine in 2021 and Bloodaxe Books in 2022. A novel, No Prisoners, is forthcoming from Godine.  He has taught at Wayne State School of Mortuary Science, Candler School of Theology at Emory University and the Graduate Program in Writing at University of Michigan.

He keeps homes in Michigan and Moveen, West Clare, Ireland.
